Unfortunately, there isn’t too much you can do to control wasps, bees and hornets from nesting in your space, but here are a few tips:
- Fill up any cracks or gaps you notice in your home’s exterior mortar, brick, paneling, etc. Though some species will burrow in anyway, covering up these hidden spaces they like to nest in lessens the chance they’ll choose it as a home, controlling wasp and bee problems before they start.
- Keep an eye out. It’s always best to find nests and stage wasp or bee removal when the nests are small. Getting rid of wasps and bees is easier if you catch them early. Regularly scan places wasps and bees like to nest, like under overhangs, awnings, umbrellas, decks and in sheds for signs of a developing nest. Your Toronto exterminator will more easily be able to help getting rid of wasps if you alert them early.
- Contrary to popular belief, having a lot of flowers nearby doesn’t necessarily make you a target. Bees will travel quite large distances to gather pollen. Feel free to continue gardening.
- There are many commercial remedies on the market that you can try to get rid of wasps and bees such as bug bombs and sprays. Some work better than others, but as with many deterrent products, there are no guarantees.
In the end, there is no surefire way to protect your home. Controlling wasps or bees is usually a task undertaken when they’re already present.
