Toronto – Ontario, April 3, 2012 - Over the last few years, the bed bug epidemic has gained momentum in the city of Toronto and surrounding areas. There are ongoing reports of bed bugs infestations in hospitals, hotels, homes, offices, and even the TTC.
“The bed bug epidemic is definitely getting worse,” says Alex Dayan, manager of Magical Pest Control, one of Toronto’s leaders in pest control. “We do about 150 bed bug jobs a day in the GTA, mostly in Toronto. A few years ago, it was half that.”
Traditionally, bed bug exterminators have been using chemical treatments to kill bed bugs. Although chemical pesticides are effective, reports of human harm are increasing. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) in the U.S. have reported that chemical bed bug treatments are causing illness in humans, and recommends an alternative method of killing bed bugs. That method is the ThermaPureHeat process.
ThermaPureHeat technology is a patent pending system that offers a non-chemical, heat treatments that is guaranteed to kill bed bugs. Until recently, ThermaPureHeat was only available in the U.S., however, Magical Pest Control was the first trained and fully-licensed Pest Control company in Ontario to offer this eco-friendly method of fighting bed bug infestations.
The ThermaPureHeat process involves heating single rooms to the minimum temperature of 118 degrees Fahrenheit. The heat penetrates deep into a walls, floors, furniture, bedding and clothes to kill bed bugs and their eggs, even in hard to reach areas. This process requires one treatment while chemical pesticides often require multiple treatments to be effective.
While chemical treatments require property owners to bag and wash all clothes and bedding in an infected area, ThermaPureHeat treatments enables all clothes and bedding to be left within the treated area. The heating process has also been known to clean the air inside infected rooms, leaving a fresh, odorless scent.
